Prof. Dr. Rouslan I. Moustafine
Associate Professor of Pharmacy at Kazan State Medical University (KSMU), Tatarstan, Russian Federation. He has been heading the Department of Pharmaceutical, Analytical and Toxicological Chemistry from 2003 to 2018, then has worked as the Dean of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences from 2009 to 2018 and now is the Director of the Institute of Pharmacy and the member of the academic senate of KSMU.
He received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology from I.Sechenov’s Moscow State Medical University in 1991 and his PhD project was focused on the application of interpolymer complexes in oral drug delivery.
His area of specialization is the development of interpolyelectrolyte complexes (IPEC) with Eudragits® and other pharmaceutical polymers and their application in the design of novel oral drug delivery systems.
Dr. Moustafine has made an important contribution in the field of drug delivery, in particular, with his achievements in the development and characterization of IPECs. In fact, he has been a pioneer in the research of polycomplexes formed by oppositely-charged Eudragit® copolymers and his work has influenced current research of many other researchers.
In 2009 Dr. Moustafine was the recipient of the prestigious annual national award “Profession” – to the best Russian scientists in the medical and pharmaceutical field, for design of new types of drug carriers based on polymeric complexes.
Dr. Moustafine has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, reviews, and two book chapters on drug delivery. He is an inventor on 5 patents of Russian Federation. Dr. Moustafine is the Director of Research and Development and cofounder of InterLEK LLC, a pharmaceutical company, focusing their activities in the design of innovative dosage forms.
Dr. Moustafine reviewed papers for 55 international per-review journals and also serves on the editorial advisory boards of 7 pharmaceutical journals.
Abstract
Interpolymer complexes as carriers for gastrointestinal drug delivery: challengers and problems
Interaction between reactive groups of (meth)acrylate copolymer pairs, which controlling the percent as well as the time of drugs release, inside matrices or spheres and within multilayer or combined coatings give the ways of designing timed and pH-sensitive systems with targeted drugs delivery into local parts of gastrointestinal tract.
Analysis of these processes has a key significance for expanding ideas about the mechanisms regulating the transport of the drugs from prepared systems and about the ways of its modulation by changing the macromolecular parameters. Using (meth)acrylate polycomplexes is a promising way for developing new classes of pH-responsive drug carriers for oral drug delivery.
