COLOTAN researcher Theodoros Giakoumis wins Best Online Poster Award at the CoMH Future Research Conference 2023

Theodoros receiving the award by the VP of UCC Research and Innovation Prof John Cryan

Theodoros, COLOTAN PhD researcher at UCC, wins the Best Online Poster Award at CoMH Future Research Conference 2023 on his poster entitled “Exploring polysaccharide-based coating for triggering site-specific drug release in the colon: an in vitro and in vivo evaluation”. His research aims to shed light on how the colonic microbiome can be utilized to trigger specific drug release in the colon for colon targeting formulations. Theodoros worked on developing novel theophylline formulations coated with biodegradable polymers to target colonic release. Theodoros’s PhD project is supervised by Professor Brendan Griffin and Dr Joseph O’Shea.
